Welcome fabboy. What I'm saying I guess is that within out little sub-culture, the idea of a surviving original Paul AND a replacement ruffles some feathers, so be forewarned. I could be wrong but it seems to me that over the last 2-3 yrs, this forum has become pretty evenly divided between the PID camp & the PWR camp. There's not as much fevered debate on this as there used to be. I think everybody's made up their minds on where they stand on the big PID/PWR question. I agree. We've studied, as a group, I think, every possible vestige of Beatle-stuff that there is! Twice! And so we have arrived at what we think happened, differences included. What's next?

Here's the interview fabboy is referring to. If that IS JPM, he's doing a killer imitation of Billy boy doing his imitation of JPM. Here's one - same time period: Looks the same to me really, and this guy that got into trouble was I think, no doubt, the Bill married to Linda that has been the 'Paul' everyone's been exposed to. Keep in mind his mannerisms are (or were) supposed to be like JPM's. But a careful look will show, I think, that JPM had his own characteristic mannerisms that Bill didn't completely pick up. I think watching vids from that time period you'll see mannerisms that are 'Bill' that carry right over and can be seen in the present. so Ramone, do you think this might be the original JPM in this clip? And on a side note, and i'm sure this has already been discussed here, the line where the Beatles sing, "BOY, YOU'RE GONNA CARRY THAT WEIGHT FOR A LONG TIME">might just be talking about FAUL here. Just a thought.

Well it could be JPM, but I'm leaning in the direction that it isn't. Ii think the voice and behavior is more bill.
As far as the song, a line could be interpreted many ways, but given the circumstances at the time it's possible this was a reference to bill or faul.

Wow-- I'm really glad I found this thread. A couple really great, interesting points.
The reflection in the piano thing does stick out as being a little odd. Given the number of times McCartney has used mirror images in his artwork, I can't help but wonder if this was done on purpose.
Regarding the interview, I agree that the guy being interviewed looks a bit less like the "later era" McCartney I am used to seeing, and somehow a bit more like "early era" (pre 1966) mccartney.
Pause the vid at about 2:45 and have a good look at that smile, those teeth.
Very interesting....

Oh, I meant to add:
Over the years I've flip-flopped a bit as to whether I think Paul actually died or not. I have entertained the theory that maybe he was just replaced, for some reason. Maybe he got tired of all the touring and the limelight (a surprisingly large number of super-stars do). Maybe he had a breakdown, or something else happened which would have inhibited his successfully going on.
One thing I am certain of, is that SOMETHING went on.... even if that "something" was only a very long-running gag pulled on the fans. I really hope McCartney doesn't have to die (whether for the first or second time... heh) in order for us to finally find out. However, I think if one has studied this as much as I have, it would be near impossible to think that there wasn't SOMETHING to all this.
And on that note, if it were simply a "joke," I'd have thought Sir Paul would have let the fans in on it by now-- even if all the speculation does lead to more chatter and thus increased popularity... though admittedly that last bit could be strong motivation for an aging musician to keep his mouth shut. On the other hand... I don't think Sir Paul is about to starve any time soon....

On the picture of Paul with the billboards behind him... Look for the 'W' right next to him.

for what is worth, the chin in the piano reflection is not distorted, but seems to be pressed against something, as if he's leaning his head on it, so it's definitely not the same photo. for years i had my doubts, but still believed in pid. after seeing that video, i have to say that man looks a lot like middle-aged jpm. proportions of the face & nose, voice and mannerisms of speech - def not sir faul's, but the eyes really convinced me. those are PAUL's eyes.

I can only claim the I suspect that the original McCartney wanted or needed to opt out of the limelight and remains alive somewhere in the world, content to live a quieter life and happy with Sir Paul as his doppelgänger/associate. Do they ever associate? I have no idea! I suspect they have "worked together" more than once for rather brief moments. Am I crazy? There are a few people who think so. Is my opinion valid or invalid?
In general? I'm stark raving mad.
In a more personal level? It varies.
Are my ideas worth considering? Only if you realize they'll do nothing for you.......

Hi Doc, I wouldn't be surprised at all if that was the case and that they keep in touch - or at least know how to.
I think you're stark raving sane.
And that's a good thing.

I think it is JPM in that video of the interview on Channel 4 news doing an imitation of Faul. The joke at the end was typical JPM....

May I point out: clearly they're using a darker, less rounded form of face to suggest Paul (complete with disjointed upper head, by shadowline), but this is definitely our 40-ish Sir Paul. They've attempted, with the darker & more sweet look of the distortion, & upside down, to give some impression of Sir Paul & his original "self" (real Paul) but, having no 40-something pics of Paul (of course) & not being able to use a 24-year-old Paul picture or it would be too obviously not real footage in an otherwise real-footage movie, they did it this way. Slightly undistort the image and it's a darker-haired version of mid-80s Sir Paul (Faul).

Hey guys, first post here. PAUL didn't die. He planned it all way back in early 66, probably thought about it sometime in '65 during help. MANY MANY SONG CLUES from the albums leading up to PEPPER. IF YOU WANT TO SEE THE REAL PAUL, go to YOUTUBE and type in PAUL MCCARTNEY ON CHANNEL 4 NEWS (1984)>THAT IS THE JPM1. LOOK AT THE FACE, LISTEN TO THE ACCENT. IT IS NOT FAUL. GUYS, good old JPM PULLED a fast one on all of us. the real clues were the secondary clues in those late 60s beatles records, not the blatant DEATH CLUES. JUST LOOK AT THE FACE on that youtube interview>NOT LONG, BUT ROUNDED, JUST LIKE THE ORIGINAL. Here's the interview fabboy is referring to.

Fatboy's posts are interesting but the Paul McCartney I am seeing and listening to in that video clip from Channel 4 above looks like the McCartney many of us have come to identify as a new Paul Mac, the person many refer to as Bill.
What does it for me is are the Bill mannerisms - he comes across not with the Paul of yore humour but with the kind of arrogant humour and semi-patronising air that we identify with Paul McCartney post 1966. And of course there is that post 1966 nose again - slightly beaked which is alway so obvious to me. The original Paul Mac had a nose with more roundedness, and less pinched nostrils.

paul and "paul" for comparison I'm just considering what Clare wrote. I don't agree that the reflected paul is sir paul.

A little belated, here, in this response, but Piano Paul's chin being pressed against something was the first thing I noticed. I thought, well, maybe he has recording headphones wrapped around his neck. But...why would you record vocals with headphones smashing into your chin, impeding your ability to make sounds, instead of on your ears? And then I thought about "the car wreck" and wondered if his chin wasn't being propped up by the sort of head balancing type of thing that Stephen Hawking used. His hair, also, looks like a wig. I can't see enough of the ear to tell if it's real or not. His teeth do seem to be missing. If it is him, I guess, I'm surprised his face isn't more mangled. As a counter-point, he looks awfully tan for someone confined to a wheelchair to the degree that they'd need a device to keep their chin propped up. .....every possible clue just leads to more questions....

the face supposedly reflected is bill's - it is not, as anyone who's seen the original shot can see. it's paul and it doesn't appear he's in any type of distress. also his chin is pressed again the top edge of his bass or perhaps his six
it's a good opportunity to bring up that one of the reasons there has been ludicrous talk and theorizing about multiple pauls is that mcccartney utilized proper operatic singing techniques that altered his facial muscles in ways seldom seen and in ways which made his singing face seem very different than another singing face and different than the faces he made when he wasn't singing. which were many and varied as he was, in our opinion, still settling on the face and look he wanted - creative and intelligent people have the ability to do this and mccartney was a creative genius. we've all heard the expression 'inventing oneself' - that's essentialy what paul did and to his talented specifications
